re.Mixer Social Connection Event

Protect Ticket Buyers

Clean up predatory and deceptive practices to protect the rights of fans.

Background

While Eventbrite works to set the right example, live event fans deserve fair, honest, transparent, and reliable ticket-purchasing experiences. Speculative tickets, predatory resales, deceptive practices, and exorbitant price gouging have no place in the live event ecosystem. That’s why Eventbrite is partnering with independent venues and artists to urge Congress to pass comprehensive live event ticketing reforms. You’ve got plans and deserve better.

Take action

1. Join us in telling your Members of Congress to cosponsor comprehensive, bipartisan legislation to thoroughly reform live event ticketing.

Dear (Elected Official),
As a constituent and creator of live events, I support Eventbrite’s efforts to raise awareness and reduce social isolation stigma among young people through the Social Connection Project.
Social isolation and loneliness, especially among young people, is one of today’s most pervasive mental health crises. In 2022, 80% of 18-25 year-olds reported feeling a lack of companionship and 70% reported feeling left out often or some of the time.
I appreciate that Congress has taken steps to address the mental health crisis, but America’s young people continue to struggle with social isolation and loneliness. This lack of social connection can lead to negative mental and physical health impacts and can carry a health risk comparable to smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
I urge you to elevate awareness of this challenge. I also urge you to support federal research funding to develop our understanding of the impact of social isolation, specifically among 18-25 year-olds – as well as the role that in-person gathering can play in fostering meaningful social connection.
Sincerely,

Ease Event Creator Tax Burdens

Fix burdensome new IRS reporting threshold for online services, including event ticket sales.

Scanning Tickets With Phone

Background

Event creators and other online sellers face enough financial burdens while working to build followings, host successful events, and foster meaningful social connection. The last thing small businesses, entrepreneurs, and other event creators need is a new tax law that reduces the minimum IRS 1099-K reporting threshold for online sales of goods and services from $20,000 in annual payments and 200 transactions to just $600 and one transaction.

Take action

1. Join us in telling your Members of Congress to fix this burdensome requirement before the end of this year, in order to save you, your fellow creators, and other online sellers from unnecessary and confusing IRS reporting.

Foster Social Connection

Build a better understanding of social isolation and how shared in-person experiences can foster meaningful social connection.

Background

Eventbrite is convening best-in-class academic, nonprofit, and advocacy leaders to support event creators in hosting more socially-connected events, raise awareness, reduce the stigma of social isolation, and elevate social connection as a public health priority.

Through our multi-year Social Connection Project, which incorporates research, advocacy, and partnerships, Eventbrite is committing to fostering meaningful social connection through the power of live experiences.

Take action

1. We urge you to contact your member of Congress and voice your support for elevating social connection as a public health priority.

2. Share your story with Eventbrite.
We would love to hear from you about how fostering in-person social connections is important to you and your business.

Support Safe Gatherings

Stand up for policies that empower event organizers and support safe gatherings

Background

We’re committed to event safety. That is why we are empowering event creators with resources to make informed event safety decisions and advocate for common sense measures that support safe gathering.

Event safety is an important issue beyond the COVID-19 pandemic. New digital safety initiatives like Next Generation 9-1-1 will upgrade 911 technology by allowing people to share data like videos, images, and texts with 911 call centers. This will help facilitate rapid emergency response at live events if ever needed.

Join us in supporting digital safety initiatives like Next Generation 9-1-1 deployment that will help enable more secure experiences when we connect at live events.

Take action

1. We urge you to contact your member of Congress and voice your support of Next Generation 9-1-1 technology.

Dear (Elected Official),

As a constituent, I urge you to support policies that will foster safe gatherings and more secure live events. After experiencing social isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have a deeper appreciation of the importance of congregating with friends and family. To support the development of innovative public safety programs, I ask that you cosponsor the Spectrum Innovation Act, H.R. 7624, which would direct $10 billion of future Federal Communications Commission spectrum auctions to support Next Generation 9-1-1.

I urge you to support funding for digital safety initiatives like Next Generation 9-1-1 deployment that could help save lives during crises and improve event safety. This technology will help facilitate rapid emergency response and more secure experiences as we reconnect at live events.

Congressional support for digital safety tools like Next Generation 9-1-1 will help communities engage with each other more safely than ever before.

Thank you for your attention to these matters. Sincerely,

2. Share your story with Eventbrite. We would love to hear from you about your specific safe gathering needs so that we can help support them.
